Tuesday Afternoon

“All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort.” 2 Corinthians 1:3

Liam continued to recite the scripture through his tough times last night. We thank God for his wonderful nurse Carolyn. She was very gentle and caring in hooking Liam back up to the IV. She also spent some time with him to reassure him that he was still doing really well. Within an hour Liam started to feel better and we had a great rest of the night.
This morning my fun loving, joke cracking child was back! His smiles have been allusive since he came out of surgery but this morning, he was more of his usual self. He ate a pancake breakfast and then invited his mother to play Wii with him. Now, we do not have one of these games systems in our house but yesterday Liam’s child life specialist brought him one to cheer him up. So there we were mother and son playing ping pong this morning. Liam creamed me. I knew things were not going to go well when I had trouble even grabbing my racket! I want you to know that I redeemed myself with the fishing game in which I was a pro! Laser hockey was next and I think at this point I started to get to excited and Liam was laughing and told me I had to stop because he was laughing too hard and it was hurting his neck. Oh well! It was fun it lasted.
As we look toward the surgery tomorrow it was nice to have some fun moments today. Dr. Singh is coming to see us at 2pm today to talk about the plan for tomorrow and then tonight they will actually start getting him ready. Therefore, Liam is unable to have visitors after 4pm today as for much for the time he will not be in the room. We get all of our email and the comments for this blog on Jason’s blackberry. Liam loves to read them so feel free to send a message.
We will try to update our prayer requests after we talk to Dr. Singh but our current needs follow. Liam left a red bible for young people yesterday in the children’s play room with a note. Pray that it will bring comfort to a child that is here at McMaster. Please pray that Jason and I will be able to secure a room at the Ronald McDonald house which is across the street. We are getting tired and from experience we know that the next few days will be long ones so a room at the house would be a huge blessing. Pray for rest for both Liam, Jason and I. Pray that Liam will continue to be able to keep food down as he needs his strength for this next surgery. Pray that the IV in his neck will stop giving him problems. It is sore and the nurses have had trouble with it kinking. The risks for this surgery are the same as the last but Dr. Singh has told us that there is an increased risk of infection this time around. Please pray that this will not be a problem for Liam. Pray for the surgery to go smoothly and for Liam to recover just as well the second time around as this time. Pray for connections that we made in the critical care unit last week with nurses and staff. Pray that despite the circumstances that we would clearly see opportunities to be the body of Christ here where ever we walk.

  3. Yo Liam, I recently heard about your dog 'FiFi' having to go for surgery...bummer dude! I once had a dog named 'Harold' and he had to have surgery on his big front tooth - which cracked after he bit into a candy apple, which he stole out of my Halloween loot bag, which I left on my bedroom floor, and Mom said, "...and don't leave your Halloween loot bag on your floor, cuz Harold will get into it and if he gets hold of the candy apples he could crack his teeth on them...". Well, as you may have already guessed, yes I forgot.

Funny thing about candy apples they taste soooo darn good and yet they can really hurt your teeth - why is that? I think Dog Dentists invented them so when dogs bite them their teeth will crack and then mom's and dad's will have to bring their dogs into he dog dentist and spend lots of money getting their dogs cracked teeth fixed...but that's just what I think, I could be wrong...

Well any doodles I have to go play with my friend Stan right now...he's from a place called Turkey and said it's called that cuz his old country is shaped like a giant Turkey which I think is really cool so I think we should change Ontario's name to province Chicken Leg cuz it's shaped like a Chicken Leg and because I love Swiss Chalet chicken and the dipping sauce (which i also like to drink but don't tell anyone cuz some people think I'm gross when i do that - but it's sooooo darn good - yum yum)...

Ok Liam, have fun at your Aunt FiFi's Tooth Fairy party and please save some Chicken Candy for me...cuz I love chicken candy soo darn much...

    Ciao your pen pal
    Kevo

p.s. Even thou I said "pen pal" I really didn't really use a pen to right this note to you because you can't do that - so I wrote on the computer with my key board and mouse so I guess I should have said...Your KeyBoard/Mouse Pal

  4. My prayer is that the pre-op MRI will show - nothing. I'm asking the Lord to remove whatever was left behind, and there will be no need for surgery at all. Should He choose the surgical route, I pray wisdom, skill, knowledge for your surgeon, and compassion and gentleness for all who attend you.

  10. Hi, Liam!

It's Mrs. McMillen! I will be keeping you in my thoughts and prayers tomorrow as you "head" (get it? ha! I figured now that you are laughing that you might appreciate that bit of humour)into surgery tomorrow. As soon as you are able to have visitors, Mme Gergereau and I plan to see you. I have a cold right now so could not risk spreading infection to anyone near you. I have been on medication so should be well soon. I will look forward to reading about your recovery from this surgery.

  16. Hey Liam, Kim, and Jay

Our prayers are continuing for you all... and Daniel, Caroline, and Trinity...and the rest of your amazing famiy too!

Liam you are one amazing kid who has touched so many lives with your strength, attitude, and faith. Thank you for that!

May the peace of Christ continue to fill you today and may His healing hands be resting on you all.

I have found Jeremiah 29:11 to be of great comfort...I'm sure you know it well, but it's one that I wanted to share with you this morning. Every time I woke up in the night, I thought of you all and this scripture.

We will continue to pray for the itchiness, tummy stuff, healing, surgery, the connections with the staff...and much more!

Liam...Haylee just came to see what I was doing--she said she hopes you get better soon! Both Aimee and Haylee like looking at all of the pictures. They also like hearing stories about your Mom and I when we were growing up... and about camp from before any of you kids were born!

Blessings, love, and prayers for you our friends
    Sending you all a hug,

    Kim, Jer, Aimee, and Haylee

  17. Liam, Kimb, and Jay!

Thank you for allowing so many people to walk along side you during such a difficult journey. Your posts have made me laugh and cry, and I have been so encouraged by all that God has been teaching each of you. Liam, I think I met you when you were a baby, but I haven't seen you or your parents in a very long time. Your dad and I worked at camp together and used to laugh so hard we'd embarass ourselves. I'm glad to hear you have picked up a similar zest for life.

I just wanted to let you know that I am praying today especially, but also for the days to follow. For healing. For comfort. For more opportunities to share God's love and healing with others around you.

    with love and prayers,
    Janine (Armstrong) Ajie
