Free Recipe Friday - Gift Recipe for Holiday Potpourri

I can't believe that Christmas is only one week away!  This year we decided to make about 80% of our gifts.  It has been a challenge as I wanted gifts that were unique but also that I could actually accomplish with our already hectic schedule.  You have probably seen lots of easy recipes on the internet for cookies or soup in a jar but I was surprised when I came across this idea.  The original recipe was a lot more complicated.  I don't do complicated well, so I simplified it and this is what I came up with.  If you need a last minute hostess, neighbour or friend/family gift these can be made really quickly.

Holiday Potpourri

You will need:

A Mason or recycled Spaghetti Jar
Oranges
Lemons
Limes
Fresh Cranberries
Water
Cinnamon Sticks
Gift tags
Raffia, and/or Twine

Slice oranges, lemons and limes.  Stack oranges first, then lemons and then limes in the jar.  they should be about 3/4 of the jar height.  Add cranberries on top.  Fill with water to the neck of the jar.  Secure the lid on tightly and tie on two cinnamon sticks with your raffia or twine to the outside of the jar.  Attach on your gift tag and you are ready to go!

Gift tags - We made ours out of scraps of card stock that we had in our craft desk.  On one side we decorated and addressed our gift and on the other we wrote out these simple directions for our recipient.

Holiday Potpourri Directions:
Empty entire contents into a saucepan.  Add the cinnamon sticks and simmer over low heat.  The potpourri will make your house smell terrific!  Add more water as needed throughout the day.

Enjoy!
